Integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability in Public and Private Sector Institutions in Africa

The continent of Africa is growing into a major economic empire for the 21st century and beyond. As such, understanding that the integration of the three pillars of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) must be at the forefront of sustainable development mandates and goals throughout the public and private sector institutions in Africa. In order to achieve long-term growth and resiliency, the natural resources including land have the potential to offer exponential opportunities for sustained\ economic growth and stability. In order to have significant impact, the public and private sectors must be aligned with the goals and aims of the Agenda 2063 that clearly outlines the outcomes and expectations required for the future. It is of utmost criticality that the Environmental, Social, and Governance entities become fully cognizant of its responsibility and accountability to the whole of Africa in ensuring that all of the resources are infused within the common agenda for continental growth and restoration. The Environmental, Social, and Governance implications are far reaching, as they all affect sustained growth and the trajectory of a new emerging society. Particularly, existing policies that affect governance must address corruption and compliance issues that prevalently impede the growth, sustainability, and progress of the continent today. This paper delves into the numerous opportunities, threats, and strategies that must be utilized through analyzing past and present trends to provide solutions for future restoration and advancement throughout the whole of Africa. The impact in doing the ascribed recommendations is essential to creating sustainable growth.
